Disney Channel is a 24-hour general entertainment television network in Australia that taps into the world of children through original series and movies, plus contemporary acquired programming. It is marketed to children from 5 years to 15 years old.
Gruden developed numerous widgets to be deployed in line with launch of the Disney Channel Desktop.
Gruden choose to use the Yahoo Widget engine as it was free engine that is used on both windows and Mac OS
Yahoo Widget engine is a free JavaScript runtime engine for Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows, previously called Konfabulator, but subsequently bought by computer services company Yahoo!. The runtime engine runs small applications referred to as Widgets, and hence is part of a class of software applications called widget engines. It combines its JavaScript engine with an XML document structure that can be used to author custom Widgets.
Gruden developed the concepts, designs and developed all the functionality for these widgets. All the widgets where designed to be in line with the style and branding of the Disney Channel Desktop.
Gruden created the following widgets:
1. Hannah Montana Address Book Widget 2. American Dragon Address Book Widget 3. Disney Channel TV Guide 4. Kim Possible Calculator Widget 5. Two different Suite Life Note Pad Widgets
To make the experience a unique one Gruden provided an interesting way of downloading the widgets.
All the widgets where placed around the desktop site and users needed to explore the site to find the widgets, they the drag them into a media where they could then download them to the website. This made the whole experience unique and exciting and something you could only experience the Disney Channel website.
The widgets have been a huge success with 1000 widgets being downloaded in the first week of launch.
